The British Council’s hotline for reporting serious wrongdoing

Safecall offers a confidential hotline for British Council colleagues who feel unable to use our internal procedures to raise concerns over serious wrongdoing, and for those outside the organisation including stakeholders, partners, customers and suppliers.

The service allows you to raise concerns about:
  • adults at risk
  • children
  • fraudulent activity
  • harassment
  • significant breaches of our Code of Conduct (British Council employees only).

This service is not for raising issues related to English language exams results, delayed refunds, standard venue arrangements or exam procedures. For these issues, please contact our Customer Services team at general.enquiries@britishcouncil.org who will be able to manage your issue more promptly.

In countries where legally permissible, Safecall provides the option to remain anonymous if you choose. To enable us to manage your concern more effectively we would prefer you provide your details, so direct follow up can be made. However, the most important thing is that you speak up.

If you are an employee and your concern is about your working relationship with another employee, policy or contractual issues we encourage you to first look at using the Informal Resolution process, Grievance Policy or other applicable policies.

All reports received by Safecall will be passed to named individuals in the Global Employee Relations team. The Global Employee Relations team will review the report and determine who or how best the concern should be managed.  They may pass your report to the appropriate specialist team or contact you via Safecall for further details, if necessary.  The British Council Global Employee Relations team will ensure the report is shared only with the relevant and appropriate person or team for resolution. All reports will be treated in confidence and only shared as necessary to ensure effective management of your concern.
